Hi, Welcome to Great Easy Healthy Recipes.

I’m Martha McKinnon, a cooking coach who specializes in simple, delicious healthy recipes.  A lot of people are under the misconception that healthy food can’t be tasty. I’m here to prove them wrong!

I’m also a yoga instructor, cookie lover and passionate cookbook collector.

I’ve loved food and enjoyed cooking for as long as I can remember. The kitchen is definitely my favorite room in the house.

And while I enjoy eating out and ordering take out, I prefer to cook and eat in most of the time. Even after a long day, it’s often easier to just get in the kitchen and make something simple than hassle with the whole restaurant scene. And it’s a lot healthier and cheaper too!

Food is important. Food is one of life’s great pleasures. Food is comfort and community. Food is delicious.  I believe the quality of what you eat can have a direct effect on your health. Food can make you strong or weak, energized or tired, slim or fat. You are what you eat!

But, I am not into extremes. I believe that it is what you do most of the time that matters so I strive for a balance between health, pleasure and convenience, eating simple real food most of the time.

While I try to avoid most processed foods, I am not above the occasional jar of marinara or boxed cake mix, in a pinch! Life is busy and it’s important to be realistic, not obsessive.

An Easy Approach to Healthy Eating

For me healthy eating is about creating a simple healthy lifestyle that is realistic, sustainable, and not subject to the latest nutritional fads and whims, which come and go. It’s about eating healthy real food most of the time and not worrying about the occasional indulgence. I don’t believe in driving myself crazy trying to keep track of calories, carbs, and grams of fat. When you eat fresh healthy food most of the time nothing has to be off limits. It’s all about finding a sensible balance between health, pleasure and convenience.

This website is not about learning to cook complicated meals that require every pan in the kitchen and take hours to prepare.

Cooking should be easy, tasty, healthy and quick.

You don’t have to be a master chef to enjoy simple satisfying food. The key is:

  • finding recipes with just a few ingredients and preparation steps
  • having the right tools and knowing how to use them
  • stocking your kitchen with basic ingredients
  • continuing to practice till until you are comfortable and cooking becomes fun and easy

A Little More About Me

I have a BS from Northeastern University and am a graduate of The Institute for the Psychology of Eating’s Dynamic Eating Psychology and Mind-Body Nutrition course. I have enjoyed cooking and been taking cooking classes for decades. I am a graduate of The Natural Gourmet Institute’s Core Program in Health Supportive Cooking and the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, the world’s largest nutrition school, in New York City.

I have also taken lots of cooking courses and vacations through the years to expand my knowledge and hone my skills. It seems like there is always something new to learn in the world of healthy eating and cooking.
